Speaking at the specialized logistics panel of the 2026 International Steel Exhibition & Symposium, the Head of Product Logistics and Transport Control at Mobarakeh Steel Group delivered a comprehensive performance report for the past year. He announced the transport of over 8.5 million tons of finished products, a 12% to 15% share for rail transport, and the implementation of a multimodal transport framework linking service centers in Tehran, Tabriz, and Mashhad to the national rail network.

According to the analytical news outlet IRASIN, citing the Communications Management of Mobarakeh Steel Group, Hossein Amini, Head of Product Logistics and Transport Control at Mobarakeh Steel Group, detailed the company's transport operations and policies during a specialized panel titled "Logistics and Rail Transport in the Steel Industry." The session took place on the third day of the 2026 International Steel Exhibition & Symposium at Mobarakeh Steel Group's pavilion, hosted by IRASIN.

Amini stated: "Last year, more than 8.57 million tons of various finished products were produced at Mobarakeh Steel Group and dispatched to consumer destinations. Of this total, approximately 6.6 million tons were distributed in the domestic market, while 1.97 million tons were transported to export destinations, including southern ports and border exits."

Breaking down the production origins, he added: "Out of the total freight volume, Mobarakeh Steel Complex accounted for 7.034 million tons, while Saba Steel & Rolling Company contributed 1.538 million tons. Within these figures, the national rail fleet's share in moving steel products was recorded at 1.027 million tons. This represents roughly a 12% share for rail across the company's overall transport portfolio. However, since Saba Steel & Rolling Company has a negligible or near-zero rail share, measuring this ratio solely against the output of Mobarakeh Steel Complex raises the rail transport share to approximately 15%."

Evaluating these figures against international benchmarks, Amini remarked: "Looking at successful global experiences, such as in Russia and China where rail's freight share reaches approximately 40%, demonstrates significant growth potential within the country and Mobarakeh Steel Group. Upper-level policy documents and the targets of the country's 7th Development Plan set a 30% goal for rail freight. This strategic target stands at a meaningful distance from the national rail transport average of around 10% out of a total freight volume of 450 to 500 million tons, highlighting the need for intensified focus by policy makers and the industrial sector."

The Head of Product Logistics and Transport Control at Mobarakeh Steel Group pointed to the undeniable benefits of expanding rail infrastructure, noting: "Increasing the rail transport share, beyond offering direct economic benefits to customers and ensuring distribution chain stability, plays a fundamental role in improving road safety metrics, reducing traffic accidents and fatalities, and protecting the environment."

Regarding operational initiatives to overcome infrastructure bottlenecks, he stated: "Given existing infrastructure limitations at destination rail connections and physical access constraints for customers, we launched the 'Multimodal Transport' strategy. To this end, three key service centers connected to the rail network were designated in Tehran, Razavi Khorasan, and East Azerbaijan provinces. By integrating their information systems with Mobarakeh Steel Group, shipments are first transported by rail to these freight hubs and subsequently delivered to end customers via road fleets in the shortest possible time."

Concluding his remarks, Amini highlighted a surge in rail exports to neighboring countries, stating: "Following the finalization of the rail consortium and the expansion of rail connectivity between Iran and Afghanistan, the rail export route for Mobarakeh Steel Group products to Afghanistan was opened. Consequently, we successfully exported approximately 54,000 tons of various steel products to Afghanistan via rail last year."
