Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) has successfully produced S235J2W atmospheric corrosion-resistant steel for the first time in Iran, meeting the EN10025- 5 standard across a wide range (2-16 mm thickness). This “Weathering Steel” uses copper and chromium to form a protective “Patina” layer, offering a lifespan over five times longer than standard steel without needing paint.
This complex production required precise control across all units, including secondary metallurgy for refining non-metallic inclusions and continuous casting to manage segregation risks from the alloy elements. The product meets strong market demand from the construction sector for humid and coastal areas, making Iran self-sufficient and reducing reliance on imports from China and Turkey. Aligned with MSC’s “green steel” goals, this durable product will drastically reduce lifetime maintenance, VOC emissions, and the overall CO2 footprint, matching the sustainability benchmarks set by global leaders like SSAB and Nucor.
